Esperanto 2019 - The clinical audit guide for radiology departments
At ECR 2019, an enhanced version of 'Esperanto' was launched. The ESR, in collaboration with National Radiological Societies and EuroSafe Imaging, is working to improve patient safety and quality of care across Europe by supporting radiology departments in developing a clinical audit programme. Discover the new ESR clinical audit guide and share your experience with us!

Harmonisation of the radiology profession: renewed initiatives
The political debate on the recognition of professional qualifications urges the ESR to put forward its twofold request to the EU institutions of changing the name of the discipline to “Radiology” and extending training to five years. The ESR believes it is the ideal time to act to enhance harmonisation of medical training for radiologists throughout Europe by undertaking a multi-layered approach at national and EU levels.

Lung Cancer Screening certification programme
To help radiologists introduce Lung Cancer Screening (LCS) and reduce lung cancer mortality, the European Society of Thoracic Imaging (ESTI) has developed a dedicated LCS training programme: providing training for a high-quality service, including reducing false positives and as low a radiation dose as possible. Apply by October 2019 at www.myESTI.org.This programme is supported by the European Society of Radiology.

How to identify "epilepsy-related" networks in vivo?
This study investigates the presence of disease-specific epilepsy networks in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy. Machine learning methods on resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging provided evidence of ten networks, in various areas of the brain, carrying disease-sensitive information. (Eur Radiol)

Burkitt Lymphoma
This educational review presents what a radiologist needs to know about Burkitt lymphoma, including pathobiology and classification, multimodality imaging evaluation of common and atypical presentations and sites of involvement, therapies, and imaging of treatment-related complications, response and recurrence. (Insights Imaging)

Response to lung cancer treatment assessed by perfusion CT
This prospective study evaluates perfusion computed tomography (PCT) parameters in patients with non-small cell lung cancer treated with chemotherapy with or without radiation therapy. PTC parameters were decreased after treatment in epidermoid tumours responding to therapy. (Eur Radiol Exp)

Publications on artificial intelligence: an interview with Prof. Zhi-Cheng Li
Professor Zhi-Cheng Li (Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences) discussed his thoughts on the topic of AI in radiological journals. Li offered suggestions on how journals can better appeal to authors, where AI articles fit into classic journals, and what Editors-in-Chief can do to encourage authors to submit papers on AI. Read more here.

Staging colorectal cancer with whole-body MRI: one stop shop?
In this large, prospective, multicentre trial, the diagnostic accuracy and efficiency of Whole-Body MRI (WB-MRI) based staging is compared with the standard multimodality staging investigations in patients with newly diagnosed colorectal cancer. It concludes that WB-MRI staging has similar accuracy to standard staging pathways and reduces the number of tests needed, the staging time, and the cost. (Lancet Gastroenterol Hepatol)

VI-RADS validation study
This study evaluates the interobserver agreement and the diagnostic performance of Vesical Imaging-Reporting and Data System (VI-RADS) for the diagnosis of muscle-invasive bladder cancers on multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging. (Eur Urol)
